Last Monday, Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months in jail
and three months of home confinement. According
to 93.9 WKYS, “Hill had paid more than $970,000 to satisfy the state and federal
tax liabilities” prior to her sentencing.
During her statement to the Judge, “Hill explained she had always meant
to eventually pay the taxes but was unable to during a period of time when she
dropped out of the music business.” However,
many were shocked that Hill got jail time given that she paid a substantial amount
towards her tax debt. Either way, Hill still
got a break because she could have gotten more jail time. Hopefully, Hill
learned a valuable lesson from this experience and don’t fine herself back in
the same situation.
